SanGIS Proposes Removing non-Assessor Addresses from Parcel Layers

SanGIS-maintained address fields would be removed from data layers.

SanGIS currently publishes SanGIS-maintained address information in the PARCELS and derivative layers. If a SanGIS-maintained address exists for a parcel it is inserted into the SanGIS address fields in the PARCELS layer. The PARCELS layer also includes the Situs address information provided by the County Assessor’s Office. See the table below for a list of SanGIS address attributes published in the parcel layers.

The SanGIS address point information is the only data in PARCELS that is not provided by the County Assessor’s Office. The process for adding the SanGIS address information to the parcel and lot layers is complex, time consuming, and subject to publication problems. At the same time, the SanGIS address point information is already available in the ADDRESS_APN (address points) layer so it somewhat redundant in parcels.

SanGIS is proposing to modify its publication processes so that the SanGIS address point information is no longer published in PARCELS. Only the Assessor’s Situs address data would be published. This provides a more streamlined publication and maintenance process that is less prone to failure. It also has the advantage of making the parcel layer a purely Assessor-maintained layer with no outside data added.

SanGIS understands that this change may have dramatic impacts on current automated processes and parcel layer derivatives. SanGIS is requesting feedback from data users on how this change will impact their current business processes. If you have any processes that use these data layers please send your feedback on this proposal to SanGIS (director@sangis.org). Your feedback by February 9, 2016 would be appreciated.
